Education
cannot be for students in any authentic way, if it is not of and by
them.

Critical Dimensions is a
service offered to people working within the ‘caring professions’. The services offered include non-managerial
supervision, training and consultancy to churches and other voluntary
organisations.
Critical Dimensions aims to
support and develop individuals and the organisations in which they work by
providing them with the time, space and skills to reflect on their work in
order to move forward and grow both personally and professionally.
Services include
non-managerial supervision, training and consultancy for youth &
Community workers, social workers, others in the ‘caring professions’ and
the organisations in which they work.
Arthur Brown formed critical
Dimensions in 1999. Arthur has 11 years
experience in various aspects of Youth and Community Development.
There may be particular
issues or concerns, or simply a desire to improve existing ways of
working. We may also be able to help
identify unnamed ‘problems’ and develop strategies for ‘dealing’ with these.
There are many dimensions to
the work Critical Dimensions clients are involved in, be that youth &
community development, education, social work, pastoral care etc. The model Critical Dimensions use focuses on
the real experiences of the practitioners within their work setting.
If you or the team in which
you work feel that there are areas of your work that could be developed through
reflection and support, or if you are looking for fresh insights or goals,
Critical Dimensions may be able to help.
What Can Critical Dimensions offer?
Non-managerial Supervision
Supervision can be very
broadly and simply defined as ‘a regular and active process involving a minimum
of two people in which at any one time one person is responsible for enabling
another person to reflect on their work and learn from it in order to plan and
work more effectively in the future’ (DeMontfort University 1998). Supervision sessions can be arranged on an
individual or small group basis, to suit personal, team or organisational
needs. Sessions usually take
place on a monthly basis at the address shown.

Training
Training should be an
ongoing process in which workers and a trainer create an atmosphere conducive
to learning, which can then be translated into work practice. Training sessions for individuals or teams
covering various issues can be arranged for staff and volunteer teams. Subjects include; general youth work
practice, mentoring, young people ‘at risk’, school exclusion, supervision
etc. For more details please contact
Critical Dimensions.
Consultancy
Is your organisation /
church in need of some fresh input or creative ideas. Do you want to develop a youth work strategy, or develop your
existing work? One off or short-term
consultation sessions can be provided to organisations and churches in youth
work related areas.
